It has good roads and transportation network that makes it easy to travel to other neighboring cities \u2013 Vitoria and San Sebastion. This city has a major seaport and is a highly industrialized city.  Climate  The climate in Bilbao is oceanic because of which this place has moderately cool summers and comparatively warm winters; its temperature in the month of January hovers around 9\u00a0\u00b0C whereas it is about 21\u00a0\u00b0C in July. The rain in this place is quite heavy and on an average it snows 3 days in a year in winter.  History  Don Diego Lopez de Haro V who was the Lord of Biscay in June 1300 founded Bilbao village on the opposite side of a river bank where there was a fishing settlement existing. The origin for the name of the city is unclear; some people believe that it came from the Spanish word \u201cbel vado\u201d meaning good river crossing; there are others who are of the opinion that it originates from the word \u201cbi albo\u201d meaning two river banks.  Bilbao's buildings and constructions have a history of 700 years. The historic quarter has been designated as a conservation area and the history of the city can easily be understood by visiting this area. One can see the best buildings of 20th century architecture in the city centre.\u00a0Some of the famous foreign architectural firms involved in the construction are Foster, Gehry, Calatrava, Isozaki, Pelli, etc.  Art and culture   Two of the best art galleries in Spain are situated in Bilbao; it also has six themed museums, a number of modern art exhibitions and series of performances and shows \u2013 opera, theatre, symphony orchestras, dance, pop and rock 'n roll, cinema, etc.  The Bilbao Guggenheim Museum was built in 1997 by Gehry and is covered fully with titanium sheets; this is very popular among tourists.
