The city Vitoria-Gasteiz is the capital of the\u00a0Alava Province in Spain<\/a> and it has a population of 240,000 people. After Bilbao, It holds the distinction of being 2nd largest Basque city.<\/span>

\nHistory<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

King Sancho VI of Naverre founded Vitoria in 1981 on a small hill and named it as Nueva Victoria<\/strong><\/a>. Alfonso VIII, the Castilian monarch took over this place in 1200. The town became popular for its craft from this time onwards. Juan II of Castile renamed this city as Vitoria in the 15th\u00a0century. This city expanded in the 18th and 19th centuries.<\/span><\/p>\n

Climate<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The maximum and minimum average temperatures in this city are 26 \u00b0C in July-August and 1 \u00b0C in January.<\/span>

Fine Arts Museum<\/strong> \u2013 this was started in 1941 and contains items such as arms, archaeology and fine art.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c1lava Archaeological Museum<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 exhibits items of various eras \u2013 Paleolithic, Iron Age, Roman world and medieval collections.<\/span><\/p>\n

Arms Museum<\/strong> \u2013 displays weapons, uniforms, pictures, models, arms, etc.<\/span>

\nArtium Museum<\/strong> \u2013 exhibits modern art from 1900 onwards.<\/span><\/p>\n

Santa Mar\u00eda de Est\u00edbaliz Church<\/strong> \u2013 is a Romanesque church.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mar\u00eda Inmaculada Pro-cathedral Vitoria<\/strong> \u2013 is a neo-Gothic building built in 1969.<\/span>

\nCathedral Santa Mar\u00eda <\/strong>\u2013 was built in 13th, 14th and 15th centuries in stages and is supported by a number of huge columns.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vitoria-Gasteiz Town Hall<\/strong> \u2013 was built in the year 1731 and renovated in 1982.<\/span>

\nBas\u00edlica San Prudencio<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 this church is planned like a Latin cross and it has four pointed arches.<\/span>
