Let us take a tour of<strong> Salamanca.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We start our tour from the renowned place of learning; the University of Salamanca. This is one of the oldest universities believed to have been started in 1218 by the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.clubvillamar.com\/villas\/spain\/andalucia-interior\/el-gastor\/espliego\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong> king Alfonso IX.<\/strong><\/a> This important place of learning is located in one of the most historic buildings. The building is believed to have been renovated in the 16th century and is full of stunningly beautiful sculpture works by the famous sculptors of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clubvillamar.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Spain.<\/strong><\/a> <!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The architects who designed this building had a vision and that was to create a \u2018doorway to heaven\u2019. If you want to test your luck, visit the old university\u2019s vault. There is a carved skull and a tiny frog which sits hidden inside the intricate carving work of the skull. The belief goes that those who find the frog are blessed with good luck. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clubvillamar.com\/villas\/spain\/costa-blanca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Students believe<\/a> that if they locate the f<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> rog, they would pass the examination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clubvillamar.com\/villas\/spain\/costa-maresme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">After being<\/a> blessed with good luck by the tiny frog, we will now go to the cathedral for the blessings of the Almighty. This cathedral believed to have been constructed in the year 1530 is a marvelous example of<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clubvillamar.com\/villas\/spain\/andalucia-interior\/cabra\/rucabra\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Gothic architecture<\/a>. <\/strong>Those who visit this cathedral are sure to get mesmerized by the highly intricate carved stonework, frescoes and many other works of art. There are many Gothic tombs. There is also an ornate chapel and a part of the chapel is being used as an examination hall by the university.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Now we are in the house of Shells <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clubvillamar.com\/villas\/spain\/andalucia-interior\/cacin\/cacin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>(Casa de las Conchas)<\/strong><\/a>. This Gothic architecture building is actually a mansion built by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clubvillamar.com\/villas\/spain\/costa-brava\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Saint James<\/a> which is considered to be a sacred symbol. It is certainly a place which should never be missed. You can enjoy the beautiful works of art and other ancient painting works in this building. It has seating arrangement for about 20000 people. This plaza is just behind the Central Market.<strong> This market is popular for selling traditional goods like handicrafts, clothing, works of arts and artifacts. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>old Romanesque cathedral: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to historians, this cathedral was built in the year 1200. In order to provide protection during the spring season double arcade has been made on the windows. From this arcade the tourist can see the famous mosque Hagia Sophia in Insanbul, Turkey. This cathedral is an outstanding example of unchallenged architectural experience of those who built this masterpiece cathedral.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Golden City: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The city of Salamanca is better known as Ciudad Dorada which means \u2018<strong>the Golden City\u2019.<\/strong> This name has been derived because of the influence of Renaissance civilization. In the Renaissance period, people had perfected the art of constructing buildings using sandstones. <strong>The people of Salamanca perfected this technology and started producing the sandstone in large scale. <\/strong>These sandstones are manufactured from a quarry at a place near Salamanca.
