It has been an active centre for many cultures throughout history. Beautiful specimens of Roman, Muslim and Christian culture can be found here.<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clubvillamar.com\/villas\/spain\/costa-del-sol\/marbella\/tylos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Mezquita de C\u00f3rdoba<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This great mosque dates back to the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.clubvillamar.com\/villas\/spain\/costa-del-sol\/marbella\/orestis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong> 8th century<\/strong> <\/a>and was built on the ruins of a church by Moslem emir Abdurrahman. The mosque is a fine example of Muslim architecture. The mosque has been reformed from time to time during the reign of various rulers and therefore provides a beautiful mix of architectural style of various periods of time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Later on in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clubvillamar.com\/villas\/spain\/andalucia\/sanlucar-la-mayor-1\/chinarral\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>16th century<\/strong><\/a> during the invasion of Christians, a church was also built inside the Mosque and for this reason this is also called the cathedral mosque. The interior of the mosque is beautifully decorated with marbles and mosaics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Medina Azahara<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is a pre-historic city and dates back to the 10th century. It is also known as the palace city. The city was divided into three parts. The upper part had Palaces, the middle part was used for orchards and gardens and the lower part contained the houses of the common people and also a mosque. The ruins of these structures can be seen now. It has witnessed many historical activities and has also been used differently during the course of history. From being the residence of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clubvillamar.com\/villas\/spain\/andalucia-interior\/cabra\/rucabra\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Queen Isabel<\/strong><\/a> and her husband Ferdinand, it has also been used as a civil and a military prison.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It has been declared as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. The place is surrounded by beautiful gardens and also consists of statues of kings that once ruled here.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Mezquita de Cordoba<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It was originally a mosque built in the 8th century by the Muslims over the ruins of a Roman temple; however with time it has seen and experienced many cultures. These cultures have greatly influenced this building and from time to time it has gone through many renovations. In the 13th century a cathedral was built inside the mosque by the Christian rulers. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clubvillamar.com\/villas\/spain\/andalucia-interior\/monachil\/colinas-bermejas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The architecture<\/strong><\/a> and art of this building is worth noticing and reflects the talent and grace of the Islamic artists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Alc\u00e1zar de los Reyes Cristianos<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is a fortress that was built in the 14th century. The three towers within it are very popular. The towers are named as \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clubvillamar.com\/villas\/spain\/andalucia-interior\/granada\/carmen-del-agua\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Tower of the River<\/strong><\/a>, the Tower of the Lions and the Tower of the Allegiance. The fortress was built in Gothic style and beautiful specimens of Gothic art can be seen here. First, the Moors built a mosque on the remains of a Roman -Visigoth temple, then after Spanish conquest it was changed into the cathedral.<\/p>\n<p>This huge building is very interesting since it combines Moslem architecture and Gothic style. Until 1236 it was a well known mosque. However, in 1236 the cathedral was raised in the middle of the mosque.<strong> But the remains of Moslem history are preserved in its name- Mezquita, which is in use even today.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It lies on the banks of the river Guadalquivir. Therefore, it is a very attractive historical site for tourists.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The\u00a0Alc\u00e1zar de los Reyes Cristianos <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The second big landmark of Cordoba is <strong>Alcazar<\/strong>. It is the former Moorish fortress which was built on the ruins of Visigoth buildings, and later used as headquarters of the Inquisition.\u00a0The Moors made many baths, gardens and even a library. And from then onwards the city became known for another 250 years for its wide business and scholarly options throughout the world.\u00a0929 AD marked another landmark in the history of Cordoba, when the Caliphate of Cordoba was initiated; from then on the city experienced the peak of prosperity.\u00a0In the 11th century, the caliphate fell, so material well-being of the city dropped. Furthermore, Seville became the capital. In 1236, it was occupied by Ferdinand III.\u00a0He made many new churches since this piece of Spain received Roman Catholicism.  Catedral de Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de la Asunci\u00f3n  Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption is a cathedral built from the eighth to the tenth century. First, the Moors built a mosque on the remains of a Roman -Visigoth temple, then after Spanish conquest it was changed into the cathedral.  This huge building is very interesting since it combines Moslem architecture and Gothic style. Until 1236 it was a well known mosque. However, in 1236 the cathedral was raised in the middle of the mosque. But the remains of Moslem history are preserved in its name- Mezquita, which is in use even today.  It lies on the banks of the river Guadalquivir. Therefore, it is a very attractive historical site for tourists.  The\u00a0Alc\u00e1zar de los Reyes Cristianos   The second big landmark of Cordoba is Alcazar. It is the former Moorish fortress which was built on the ruins of Visigoth buildings, and later used as headquarters of the Inquisition.\u00a0The Moors made many baths, gardens and even a library. In 1236, it was rebuilt but in the Mudejar style. Therefore, the Alcazar kept its Islamic appearance.
