The distance between this city and other places are<strong> as follows:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>La Oratova<\/strong> \u2013 4 KM<br \/>\n<strong>Santa Cruz <\/strong>\u2013 37 KM<br \/>\nTenerife airport \u2013 25 KM<\/p>\n<p>The people living in this city are known by the name portuenses. <strong>The city population is about 32000.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>During the 19th century<\/strong> the physicians in Netherlands and England asked their patients to spend the winter in this place to improve their health and this has made this as a holiday resort.<\/p>\n<p>This <strong>port city was being developed for exporting to the new world wine<\/strong> and sugar from the wealthy city of La Orotava and hence was originally called Puerto de La Orotava.<\/p>\n<p>This city has a number of fine restaurants, garden beaches, beautiful streets and plazas and shopping complexes catering to up market clientele thereby making this place as a sophisticated holiday resort.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Climate<\/strong><br \/>\nThe average temperatures in a year are as follows.<br \/>\n<strong>Maximum <\/strong>\u2013 22 \u00b0C in the month of September<br \/>\n<strong>Minimum <\/strong>\u2013 16 \u00b0C in January to May<\/p>\n<p><strong>Art and Culture<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Plaza del Charco is the main square <\/strong>where people meet; this is the center of the town.
