Palam\u00f3s<\/strong> is a quiet seaside resort on the Costa Brava<\/a> which borders Calella de Palafrugell<\/strong> and Sant Antoni de Calonge<\/strong><\/a>. Palam\u00f3s was founded in 1279 by Peter III from Arag\u00f3n, who had the objective of building a new harbour. In the beginning of the 20th century, Palam\u00f3s and its neighbour village, Palafrugell, were the main economic powers of Empurd\u00e0’s coast. Their most important sources of incoming were the cork industry<\/strong>, the commercial fishery<\/strong>, the wineries<\/strong> and the fruit market<\/strong>. Since the second half of the 20th century, tourism has become more important in this area. Slowly, the original industries have become less important and tourism is taking their place. The climate is very sunny<\/strong> and mild during the whole year and it’s still a calmer village than Lloret de Mar<\/a>, Tossa de Mar<\/a>, Playa de Aro<\/strong> or Blanes<\/a>. Besides being a peaceful holiday destination, Palam\u00f3s is nowadays also a very much appreciated coastal town during the winter.<\/p>\n

Palam\u00f3s, the number one harbour on the Costa Brava<\/h2>\n

Even if tourism has become more important, Palam\u00f3s<\/strong> is still a very influential harbour. These days, Palam\u00f3s has one of the biggest fishing fleets<\/strong> of the Costa Brava<\/a>. Shrimps and prawns are the main captures in Palam\u00f3s. The daily arrival of fishing boats to the harbour, in the afternoon, is certainly something you should experience. It’s a very busy moment, especially when the sale starts at the fish market. In the harbour, you can also visit the Fishers’ Museum<\/strong>, where you’ll discover everything about the fishers’ life and the history of the fishery.<\/p>\n

Palam\u00f3s’ beaches are reachable from a beautiful path that goes along the coast<\/h2>\n

Palam\u00f3s has also beautiful beaches<\/strong> and rocky bays that are easily reachable by foot or with a vehicle. Do you want to choose a beach? Decide between the beaches of Palam\u00f3s, Playa de la Fosca<\/strong> or Playa del Castel<\/strong>. The most northern one, Playa de Castel, is also the most virginal thanks to a referendum in the 90’s that prohibited constructing in this area. If you are looking for a precious<\/strong> beach with rocks, some of the options are Cala Margarida<\/strong> or Cala S’Alguer<\/strong>. Cala Estreta<\/strong> is a mix of a sandy beach and a rocky one. On the big bay, you can swim, surf or sail. Along the coast of Palam\u00f3s<\/strong>, there’s a path that connects all the beaches and bays with each other. The landscapes of the surroundings, with pine trees till the sea, are breathtaking. The path starts above a small bay called El Golfet and goes through beaches like El Frocats or El Canyers, till the first houses of Calella de Palafrugell.<\/p>\n

In the historical centre of Palam\u00f3s, you can wander through very small alleys till the late Gothic church, l’Iglesia de Santa Maria<\/strong>. The touristic centre is quickly recognizable because of the many bars, restaurants, water sports<\/strong> clubs, the theatre, the hotels and the hostels. It offers you so much that it’s nearly like a real city.<\/p>\n
