Since the eighteenth century, some of Tossa\u2019s inhabitants have made the most of the discovery of the Americas <\/strong>to make their fortune across the Atlantic. The so-called \u201cIndianos\u201d <\/strong>then returned to their hometown. They had sumptuous homes and premises for charitable organisations built. This is the case of the old Sant Miquel hospital<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>which has now been transformed into Tossa de Mar\u2019s cultural centre.<\/p>\n

In the period between the two world wars, Tossa de Mar\u2019s reputation <\/strong>went beyond the borders of the peninsula.
