The Ametllers vi<\/strong>lla <\/strong>was discovered in 1919 following archaeological excavations. Built in the first century BC, it forms part of a group of<\/strong><\/p>\n

Roman villas <\/strong>found in Tossa. It is worth a visit as it is one of the most important <\/strong>villas in the ancient Roman province of <\/strong>H<\/strong>ispania Tarraconensis<\/strong>. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Els Ametllers villa consists of two distinct parts: the urban part <\/strong>(“pars urbana”<\/em>) and the rural part <\/strong>(“pars fructuaria”<\/em>). In the rural area, grapes were grown for export within the Empire. Much like the Roma<\/strong><\/a>n colony of Baelo Claudia<\/a> (Bolonia)<\/strong>which is located next to Tarifa in Andalusia, it bears witness to the agricultural role that the Iberian peninsula <\/strong>played<\/strong> in the Roman Empire.<\/strong><\/p>\n
