The classic Seville

The Moors occupied the city for five hundred years, during which time they completely changed the face of the city and influenced its future. 712 was the year when the Muslims conquered the city and the first thing they did in order to mark their rule was to change its name: Hispalis was transformed into Isbilya.
During the first years of the Moorish rule the Yemenis had a very important role to play in the city’s life as they tried to conquer it from the Moors; these years were of ups and downs for Seville but as soon as the 10th century arrived, peace and quiet dominated Seville’s life.
A medieval Seville
The Christians conquered Seville from the Moors and transformed it into a kingdom. Many of the buildings and monuments that still live today date back to the medieval period of the city, when Seville flourished.
