A Useful Guide To Segovia

For those who decide to visit Madrid, Segovia is an exceptional trip. The city is small, but has a very strategic location, on a rough and rocky ridge. Segovia attracts tourists with its typical Castilian air and its panoply of monuments, buildings, mansions and squares to visit. As it played the role of a royal resort, you can imagine the grandeur of Segovia; it is this specific grandeur that will make you helplessly fall in love with the city.

Considering the fact that Segovia is not one of the biggest cities in Spain, you will be impressed by the huge number of stunning architectural monuments; those who love different architectural styles will feel here like in heaven.

The city of Segovia

You need more than one day of your holiday in order to see everything worth seeing in Segovia. The Cathedral must be one of your first stops as it is one of those monuments that tell the story of the city (it is the one where Isabel was proclaimed Queen). The Alcazar is another big attraction of Segovia as it is a splendid monument; you will find it in the old part of the city. Your Segovia sightseeing list should also contain the Vera Cruz Church and the old aqueduct; the old quarters of Segovia are now situated away from the centre and what attracts the tourists’ interest is that they all look like small villages.

The El Parral Monastery will also attract your attention; it is now partly ruined but it is one of the most important examples of the great spirit of the Hieronymites, the religious order that you will find only in Spain. The Segovia Museum, hosted by the beautiful Casa Del Sol, the walls that stretch between the old San Andres Gate and the Alcazar, the Calle Desamparados Avenue and the picturesque Azoguejo Square are just some of the other interesting places in Segovia that should also be on your ‘’must see’’ list. Since you are there, also try not to miss the Calle Daoiz, the avenue packed with crafts and souvenir shops and the one that hosts the San Andres, a wonderful example of Romanesque architecture.
