Almeria

About the city

Almeria (Almeria) is a city in the province of Andalusia, southern Spain. It is placed between the famous town of Malaga and Cartagena. It had a turbulent history. Furthermore, its name derives from the Arabic word Almeraja (Al-Meraya). The city was founded in 955 by the Phoenicians. However, during the reign of Abd al-Rahman III, it became the main port of his Caliphate. Later it was occupied by the Carthaginians, Romans, and Moors, before the Christian army conquered this place in the 15 century.

Tourism

Almeria is a city of the sun, tall palm trees, long beaches, national parks, entertainment and sports.
It is one of the warmest and sunniest areas in Europe. With over three thousand hours of sunshine a year it is providing ideal conditions for relaxation. This climate is a real boom to the inhabitants of Almeria. However they use it in the best possible way- to attract tourist to this lovely seaside resort. The most frequent guests of the resort are the Germans and English.

Economy

In addition to tourism, Almeria has also developed its economy in all other directions. So it has a lot of greenhouses, and lately it has started production of fruits and vegetables, mainly for export.

Almeria is alive, modern commercial center with a large harbor, marina and sport boats for sport fishing. In its big port you can find many ferry boats, which go to different North African countries.

An endless beach

Coast offers a diverse selection of beaches. The place is well known for its tall palm trees, which rise along the coastline and long beaches with gray sand. In Avenue Cabo de Gata, in the center of town, is placed a big city beach. This a perfect place for swimmers, who can enjoy here in the beautiful color of the sea. There is also famous Playa Nueva Almeria. This beach offers an opportunity to spend a day in a pleasant surfing, and who had never tried it, can take lessons and experience the incredible feeling. This avenue along the sea is dominated by a large promenade with palm trees. The promenade is crossed paved with white and red stones. It offers a fantastic view of the sea, which leaves no one indifferent.

Almeria’s beaches offer relaxation in playing volleyball or soccer in the sand. However, for those who love to explore, sandy beaches of La Garofi are right place. Those beaches have incredible view of the Gulf of Almeria. Retamar, Costa cabana and tourist complex Almerimar also have beautiful beaches. Their cleanness is at an enviable level.
