Costa Vasca

The Beautiful Coast Line
Stretching from the Pirynees to the French border, the inviting but sometimes savage coast covers almost two hundred kilometers,
west of Bilbao.

Most of the cities are small, crammed between the rocky shores and the powerful waves of the Cantabrian Sea. The cities are full of tall buildings or industrial sectors that host factories. But on the coast, the tourists have a lot of windsurfing, surfing, and scuba diving opportunities.

Hondarriba
Hondarriba is the most beautiful resort on the Vasca Coast. The resort seems like it was taken from a post card. If you are in the center of the town, you can look over the Bidasoa river toward Hendaye, which is in France. This strategic spot has been fortified in the XVth century, and tourists can still visit the vestiges that surround the Castillo de Carlos V ( Carlos the Vth Castle).

On the abrupt but narrow streets that surround the castle, you can visit a few villas built in a Baroque style. A little bit down the street lies Marina; a place where the wooden balconies, full of flowers, dominate the lively bars and the open air restaurants. Just seven kilometers to the west is Jaizkibel, a viewpoint for the polycromatic landscapes.

Getting to Getaria
After you leave Hondarriba, go to Getaria. The old quarters have a unique charm. It is situated on a headline that ends with Monte San Anton, also known as the ”mouse in Getaria”. The main attraction of the resort is represented by the restaurants; you can eat delicious dishes containing sea fruit here. While here, don’t miss tasting a glass of txakoli, the local white wine. Finally, Zumaia

The Costa Vasca also hosts Zumaia. Zumaia is the friendly little city situated on an estuary, with a charming medieval quarter and a cooling long alley. Zumaia is famous for the two beautiful beaches, Itzurun and Santiago. If you are a surfer, the two beaches are not great for the sport you love, but you can go to San telmo which is just sixteen kilometers away from Santiago.

Accommodations
The tourists who choose to visit this part of Spain are mostly young people. Hotels are not the best choice for them for accommodations, so most of them choose villas. Villas offer the same accommodation conditions as hotels, but they are cheaper. In addition to that, they are very private and situated in wonderful places that offer you spectacular views of the landscape. Don’t hesitate to choose one, you won’t regret it!!!
