Festivals And Golfing Pleasures At San Roque

San Roque offers an authentic Spanish holiday in the province of Andalucía, having celebrated its 300th anniversary recently. This quaint town is a definite must in your travel itinerary. This town offers a warmth that melts your heart, and charm that makes you feel homey.

Attractions

Up along the street of San Felipe, you can see St Mary’s church, which contains a few religious figures that were left there by the Spanish during the Anglo-Dutch invasion in the year 1706. Breathtaking sights of the Mediterranean can be enjoyed as you walk up to the ancient houses that have well maintained patios and neat courtyards.

This town also boasts a theater, locally known as el teatro,
right at Plaza Alameda which is the town square in the center of town. Live performances by local performers are regularly presented, displaying their dancing and musical skills.

Festivals

San Roque becomes very festive during the Easter celebration where religious processions are abundant and popular, attracting all types of tourists from near and far who enjoy the unique atmosphere. Floats are heavily decorated as local bearers parade them around the streets for hours with candles burning by the thousands along the town’s winding streets. This is a spectacular sight that will be etched into one’s memory forever.

Another interesting festival is the annual August Feria festival, which brings a lot of fun. A full week of total partying takes up the summer nights with lots of music, singing and dancing by the local senoritas and the senoras in full traditional attire. Along with these, there is the wide selection of fine local cuisine offering, which goes down with free flow of fine local wine; the fino, which is a dry type of sherry from Jerez and Malaga.

A relaxing Sunday would be when the locals go trekking at the forest of Piña del Rey to enjoy some cooking of Paella, plus some quality family time together.

Golf Course

San Roque offers some fantastic golf courses along the Costa Del Sol. One such course is located at a cork forest, as there is little development here at the moment. This course offers some excellent greens of high quality with some challenging sections as well.

There is another course that has been prepared, which is not as demanding and proves to be quite enjoyable to those who want an easy playing course. This new course would be a better choice to start off your golfing activity before moving to the older course. It also hosts many renowned competitions such as the qualifying rounds of PGA tour, which ensures that its courses are well-maintained.
