Logrono

LA RIOJA is one of the most popular regions in Spain, the area situated on the Iberian peninsula. With its locations full of history, the prosperous capital of the region of Rioja is Logrono. Located next to the river,

it is neither the most picturesque town, nor the oldest one, but it compensates these aspects through its dynamism and friendly attitude, and also with the fact that it may easily be considered the capital of „tapas”. Crossing the centre of the town, the modern artery „Gran Via” separates the new part of the town from the old . It is an artery opened for pedestrians too, so you can enjoy the views whether you are a driver or not.

What  Can Be  Admired  In Logrono
Right next to the access road to „Puente de Hierro”, you will find the oldest church in Logrono, „Santiago el Real”, that was initially a Gothic construction, but was rebuilt in the XIVth century. Look above the main portral and you will see the statue of Saint Jacob riding a horse and slaughtering the Moors.

The twin towers, in Baroque style, whose peaks are inhabited by nesting storks, may be seen from the coffe shop that is right in front of the cathedral. The third church that deserves to be visited is „Santa Maria del Palacio”, noticed above all because of its high towers in pyramidal shape.

To the west, the „Museo de la Rioja” exposes religious art and pictures from the XIXth and XXth centuries. Nobody should leave Logrono without visiting the „Mercado San Blas”, a square built in art deco style, full of the most beautiful and glamourous things from La Rioja, and you can try the restaurants  where you can taste the best tapas in the world.
