Madrid and Its Beauty

The capital of Spain

Madrid is spread out on the meseta, central Spain’s highlands. Its location is perfect for its function, that is, to coordinate the eighteen autonomous regions of Spain. Madrid doesn’t have a very long history; it was only in 1561 that it became the capital of Spain. But those four hundred years have been enough to transform it into one of the most attractive cities in Spain.

The cultural identity of Madrid was born with the Paseo del Arte (a kilometer of museum space), so the city is now the perfect place for tourists to find out many interesting facts about Spain’s art, culture, architecture, and customs.

Why Madrid?

Madrid is on the list of many touristic itineraries and many people ask themselves why. Well, the answer is simple: Madrid is spectacular. Among Spanish cities, it has one of the biggest number of sightseeing objectives. Visiting the impressive number of museums and monuments requires a lot of time and energy because they are all worth visiting. In addition, Madrid is a very modern  city with excellent food, fashion and a very impressive night life.

Sightseeing in Madrid

Number one on your sightseeing list should definetely be the Royal Palace. The building is not one of the most refined palaces in Spain, but it stands out for its opulence. The Palace is a product of the court of Bourbon, so the furniture is almost entirely designed in Baroque and Roccoco style, typical for the XVIIIth century. You should also take a walk to the Plaza Mayor.

This will direct you to the centre of the historical part of Madrid, where the curved streets pass in front of cathedrals and bars that serve tapas will give you an introduction into the history of the Spanish Royalty.

Then go to the Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales, a Franciscan monastery where you can meditate in peace without being disturbed. If you want a cultural escape, go to the Prado Museum. Here you’ll find fine collections of Roman art, as well as several collections by artists such as El Greco, Goya or Velasquez.

Accommodation

The capital of Spain is packed with hotels and villas for all tastes. However, if you choose to visit Madrid for its special flavor, the best choice would be to look for a villa to rent. All villas are extremely comfortable, decorated in such a way that they respect tradition and are situated in picturesque locations, real paradises on earth.
