Majorca (Palma de Mallorca)

About the island of Majorca

The Island of Majorca is well known as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, but it is also the most beautiful island due to its diversity of landscapes, cultural and historical heritage, hospitality and famous cuisine.

Majorca, a part of the Balearic Islands archipelago, is located in the Mediterranean Sea and moreover it is the largest island in Spain. There is 554 kilometers long coast with wide sandy beach on the south and north and steep cliffs on the northeast. Between these amazing cliffs are beautiful, secluded bays or “calas”in Spanish. Nearly 40 percent of the surface of this island is uninhabited. However, that area is home of three national parks: Albufeira, Dragonera and Mondragon.

The climate is typically Mediterranean with about 170 sunny days a year and very mild winters.

Palma

The administrative center of Majorca and the Balearic Islands is Palma. Palma is a city with about 320,000 inhabitants.
The capital of Majorca is located on the beautiful bay. It has an excellent climate throughout the year with an average temperature of 18 ° C. Palma is also well known for its gorgeous sunsets, beaches and good nightlife.

Historical District

There is a historical district with Cathedral area, the Old City, the Banys Àrabs or Arab Baths. All these places describe Palma’s rich history. However, once you are there you may also want to visit Castell De Bellver with the great view of the bay or Pueblo Museum, which is constructed to remind of the village that shows the main Spanish architectural styles. Pueblo Museum is “a must” since it offers 100 best reconstructions of famous Spanish buildings. Therefore, you can stroll down the streets and plazas of Seville, Granada and Toledo. The reproductions are more than faithful to the original works. Take a look at the hermitage of San Antonio, the Court of the Myrtles in the Alhambra and the house of El Greco in Toledo.
Majorca is the perfect place for a holiday for young people but it offers an impressive and enjoyable vacation for all generations as well. Many hotels have activities for kids with a water park.

Food and Entertainment

The best way to feel the charm of a typical kitchen of Palma is to visit the old cafeterias and bakeries which are at every step. Above all, there are more than 1,000 restaurants which offer ethnic and international cuisine. Moreover, food is prepared by world renowned chefs who will fulfill your gastronomic desires.

Palma is famous for breathtaking sunrises and rich nightlife. If you like nightlife you can visit Pasoe Maritimo, the biggest club in Palma. This club is placed by the ocean and it is open until 6 a.m. At last, it is good to know that the world’s best DJs perform in Palma.
