Sightseeing In Cadiz

Cadiz is beautiful for any tourist to plan a daytrip. There will be lots of cultural and historical interest in the city that makes it a tourist paradise. There is the Cadiz Cathedral which is known as the “New Cathedral“, distinguishing it from Church of Santa Cruz, the old Cathedral.

Take time to view Cadiz from Poniente Tower via comfortably wide ramps. You can also check out the Roman Theatre nearby with the Archaeological sites of the Phoenecians and Romans located in Bishop’s House. Tavira Tower houses over 160 towers that were used to welcome ships to the port. Another great city view can be appreciated at Camera Obscura.

If you are interested in the ancient sights and history, the Admiral’s House is a good choice. It is a 17th century building that allows exterior view only. However, you can see much of the ancient relics from Cadiz Museum and the Courts Museum. The city square showcases Plaza de San Antonio which was established somewhere in 1800s. For the avid shopper, the central market, Mercado Central, will be an interesting experience, mingling with the locals for the local wares.

There are also castles and fortresses surrounding Cadiz; Castillo de Santa Catarina is now an exhibition lot with a good view of the beach whereas Castillo de San Sebastian will give you a good walk through along the coastline where you can view bathers and anglers in the area.

There are boat rides which give you a good run around Cadiz coastline; these are 40 minute trips one way with cheap fares. The best times for a boat ride is in July or August; night cruises are also available from Bay of Cadiz on a double-decker vessel.

The best beaches of Spain can be found here in Cadiz; they are Playa de la Victoria with modern facilities and Playa de la Caleta. There is no charge to these beaches; the best part about these beaches is that they are within walking distance, so it makes a nice walk to and fro the beaches.

Cádiz also offers lots of promenades and waterfront parks for your enjoyment; many of these spaces have cafés and restaurants set up for the tourist’s convenience. They are meant to allow you to laze out in the sun comfortably over a snack or cup of coffee.
