Small Algorfa Village With Great Hospitality

Algorfa, like Albatera, is a quaint village in Vega Baja set in the midst of lush countryside that is fertile and watered by the Segura River. It is set in front of a majestic mountainous backdrop with splendid views of the Mediterranean, offering more than 300 days of annual sunshine. Its moderate temperature of 19 degrees C with a low yearly rainfall makes it extremely attractive to sun lovers and sea surfers.

Algorfa village thrives on citrus farming in its fertile countryside, producing juicy oranges and lemons from its orchards which can be seen for many miles on every road.

Algorfa is such a quaint Spanish village that is alive with culture and tradition with barely 1,800 residents.

Discovery of many historical artifacts prove settlers arrived in the area as early as 3,000 BC. Neolithic human remains were discovered in 1903. King Alfonso the Second made Algorfa part of his Valencia kingdom in 1328 when it had only 15 families. Its residents have always been very hospitable, and remain so today.

The locals are a very hospitable bunch, giving visitors such a friendly and warm welcome that their great hospitality is renowned throughout the region. There are many celebrations happening at Algorfa today with a long list of festivals and fiestas, most of them happening in the summer.  The quaint village is simply set with a delightful town hall, a church and a police station. All these make the town square the main focus of any typical Spanish village. Algorfa is no different. Bars and restaurants are available although not bursting with activity all the time, maintaining the peaceful ambience of Algorfa.

There are many activities for tourists at Algorfa. A modern recreation centre offering various sports facilities like swimming, tennis, squash and mini-football is available to keep its tourists occupied. Besides, there is a Sunday market which is the crowd’s favorite that offers bargains galore.

Places of interest

For those who are avid history fans, you will discover the Neo-Gothic church that was built in the 19th century situated outside Algorfa village. A short walk away is the famous Golf Club with a Par 72 for avid golfers or they can try their hand at the 18-hole championship course. This international golf course was designed by Jose Gancedo and opened in the year 2001. Algorfa is a very suitable holiday resort for those who like the tranquility of a small Spanish setup; it is ideal for leisure activities such as walking, strolls or cycling. Beautiful sandy beaches are nearby at Guardamar del Segura in just a short 15 minute drive away.
