Tapas – A Real Spanish Delight

Tapas are traditional Spanish food that is served in few small portions, quite similar to American way of serving appetizers. In most of the regions in Spain, Tapas are served free with the first drink that you order but if it is something that attracts you in Spain, you can go to the standard restaurant or a special tapas restaurant and enjoy by ordering them.

A lot of Spanish restaurants serve the range of tapas and you’ll also find a tapas menu in these restaurants. In fact, a tapas menu is available at almost all dining locations in Spain. A lot of visitors and locals, prefer to eat tapas in locations that are present downtown. This also avail them the opportunity to enjoy the nightlife immediately after they have their meal.

You choose a variety of tapas to eat as they are available in a range of flavors. Tapas are available both cold and hot, you can try sampling view of each type. These may include variety of vegetables, Sea foods, pork, sausages or cheese that is prepared authentically using Spanish spices, preferably saffron. Most of the Spanish food items are made using your olive oil and these tapas are known to appeal to almost everyone.

Start by tasting a variety of tapas and continue by upgrading the ones you like to a half or full meal portion. Most of the tapas can be served as a main course. For a better experience, you can couple your tapas with traditional sangria or Spanish wine. A pitcher of sangria will not cost you a lot. Spain is a big manufacturer of wines, especially sangria and Spanish usually like to have wine with their meals.

Tapas are basically meant to precede an evening out or a meal. It is important that you enjoy your tapas meal slowly as having tapas is considered to be a leisurely experience. You can also order your standard dinner after you have tapas.

Make sure that you pay a generous tip along with your bill to the one who serve you tapas unless the bill includes an additional service charge. Enjoying tapas at different locations every night is preferred. In fact, a lot of people indulge in barhopping in order to sample taste tapas. Make sure that you do not keep having the same kind of tapas. Tapas is an excellent way of soaking up the culture, authenticity and nature of Spain.
