The Beautiful Museums Of Madrid

The beauty of Madrid

Madrid has a big advantage compared to other Spanish cities: it is the capital of Spain. This means that a holiday in Madrid is not only very pleasant and relaxing, but also an educational one.

A special feature of Madrid is its impressive number of museums: some of them host international collections of art while others celebrate a big name in the history of the country or one of its traditions. Regardless of their purpose, they are all extremely beautiful and they all deserve a little bit of your attention.

A few musts on the list

Probably one of the most famous museums not only in Spain, but in the entire world, the Prado Museum receives thousands of tourists every day; they all come to Prado attracted by the collections belonging to world renowned artists.

The Reina Sofia Art Museum displays art collections dating back to the 19th century but it also has galleries celebrating contemporary artists. Art is also celebrated by the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum where you will be welcomed by the works of Titian, Renoir and even Degas or Goya.

A special place is the Royal Palace (Palacio Royal) which now works as a museum as the Royal Family prefers not to live there. You should visit all the chambers which are open for public because you will immediately fall in love with them. The Decorative Arts Museum hosting no less than 60,000 objects and the Costumes Museum are also worth your attention.

Tax free museums

You will be surprised to find that Madrid has a series of museums which do not ask for an entrance fee; their only purpose is to try and educate the visitor without putting the financial barrier between them and the hosts.

The Contemporary Art Museum, the San Isidro Museum (dedicated to the archaeology and the history of Madrid) and the Municipal Museums are all on the tax free list, so take advantage of this and do not lose any more precious time!

If you are on holiday with your children, take them to the Ferrocarril Museum, which in English would be translated as the Train Museum; your little ones can even go on a ride on one of the first trains, one that used steam to work.

As you can see, Madrid is very rewarding when it comes to Museums, so you now understand why ‘’boredom’’ will not exist in your vocabulary when you visit it.
