The Region of Castilla Y Leon in Spain

This touristy region of Spain is made up of Leon, Avila, Salamanca, Zamora, Segovia, Burgos and Valladolid provinces. This is the largest of Spain’s region as well European Union’s largest.

It has beautiful Sistema Iberico mountain ranges to its east, Cordillera Cantabrica on its north and Cordillera Central on its south. These natural beauties make quite a nice panorama view and attract a great majority of people here.

This region is rich in its numerous castles, monasteries, pontificated towns and cathedrals, some of which are as a result of the union between Leon and Castilla la Vieja to make up the current region. There are also woods of cork oaks and oaks as well as natural parks that are amazingly very virgin.

Castilla Y Leon is known for its mouth watering
delicious lamb meat, creamy beans and vegetables. It also hosts folklore celebrations that are very popular, since they showcase the roots of the region.

Attractive cities
Salamanca, which is a city of historic importance, is situated in this region. One of Europe’s oldest universities is located here, adding to the natural heritage, attraction and beauty of the city. Segovia is also a monumental city that is home to the famous colossal aqueducts of Roman, dominating the town. The gothic cathedral and Alcazar are also major attractions here.

Beautiful Romanesque walls can be found in the historic town of Avila, which entirely dominates it. Another monumental and attractive town worth visiting is Burgos. Gothic styled most famous cathedral stands here and is a major tourist attraction. Other churches are located in Soria town, which is located at River Duero.

Basilica de San Isidoro and Gothic cathedrals attract people to the city of Leon, which is the former capital of Leon Kingdom.

Nearby is Las Medulas, which are legendary gold mines of the Roman Empire. The beautiful town of Zamora has magnificent churches and cathedrals, one of which is the San Pedro de la Nave church dating back to the 8th century. The largest lake, Lago de Sanabria is located here and is very important, as it is the only glacial originated lake in Spain besides being the biggest.

Those interested in sculptures, should make a point of visiting museums in Valladolid town. The famed Easter processions are held here, making the town very attractive. There are also castles and monuments spread in the town.
