Valle Hermoso – Isla Gomera

Overview

The municipal town Vallehermoso is in the Santa Cruz de Tenerife province in Spain. This is situated in the Canary Islands and had a population of 3142 in 2007. The altitude of this city above sea level is 230 feet. This town is the 2nd largest municipality in this area. It is linked to the main highway which again is connected to all parts of this town.

The meaning of VALLEHERMOSO is beautiful valley. This town is really beautiful and picturesque. Two steep ridges surround this town which is comfortably placed between these two ridges. Roque Cano, the tall volcanic monolith is at a height of 250 M above it. Most of the countryside surrounding it is best for hiking.

The la Constitución plaza is at the center of the town and all activities are focused here. Inside this plaza there are – shops, bars, banks, medical center, post office and petrol station. The sea is located in the northern part of this town and you can reach it in 30 minutes by walking.

The sea is turbulent and the surf hits the rocky beach fiercely, hence it is not advisable to bathe here. Further the weather here is mostly gloomy and does not encourage the tourists to venture for swimming. In spite of this, the local residents have ventured into building a large pool for bathing and equipped its surrounding area with a number of services.

Maximum – 19 °C in the months of August-September
Minimum – 12 °C in January-February

Sports and Entertainment

The ridge, Cumbre de Chijeré is situated to the west of the beach and you can climb up the ridge; this hike including return takes about 4 hours and you will find that the sceneries on all sides are amazing.

To start with you have to ascend a narrow mountain path for a few hundred meters from the beach and you can see the trail marked in red dots and blue arrows and this road goes in a zigzag manner steeply along the rocky slopes. You can view from here the rough line of cliffs. The sea is highly turbulent and pounds these cliffs.

From the ridge top you can see a landscape ocher rock that has been eroded. There is a dirt road leading to the viewpoint on the ridge tip and a chapel is on the way. Once you cross the Chapel, you can walk through the woods having great views.

The economy of this town is dependent on tourism, agriculture and a few businesses.
