Visit Jaen – the Up and Coming Tourist Destination in Spain!

If you want to enjoy your holiday fully, you should plan to visit Spain. To have a   relaxing time choose from lying on the beach, walking in the mountains or visiting and praying in churches where you can rest your body and mind. Or, go the educational route by visiting the many museums, monuments, botanical gardens or historical places. Jaen is becoming more and more popular as a tourist destination in Spain.

Jaen is one of the least populated provinces in Andalucia. It also never had a lot of visitors because of the terrible roads, but since the new motorways have been built, it is becoming more and more popular. Known for its fertile land, Jaen is irrigated by the important river of Spain, the Guadalquivir which runs through Jaen.

The two majestic mountains, Segura and Cazorla, and a vast stretch of fertile land add more beauty to the spectacular country. Adding color to this beauty are the luscious Olive groves. The olive oil produced in this region, has a special Aroma and is considered to be of the best quality.

Cazorla City

Cathedral: This imposing structure is believed to have been built by Andres de Vandelvira in the 16th Century. History states that this was where Veronica from Jerusalem met Jesus and wiped his face with a napkin while he was on his way to Calvary. The cathedral was built to shelter this holy “napkin”. This holy place is most popular amongst all the tourists.

Monastery: This monastery called the Monestario Santa Clara is said to have been built in the 13th Century. It is the oldest monastery in Jaen. The monastery is open during the worship period only.

Visit the city of Magdalena just a few kilometers from Jaen and you will reach another monastery called the Royal Monastery of Santo Domingo. Historians believe that this used to be the headquarters of the University of Jaen.

Arab Baths:
These baths are the most significant remains of the Moorish era of Andalusia. Archeologists say that the Arab Baths preserved in Jaen are the largest in the world. The baths can be visited in Villardompardo’s Palace.

Food: Most of the local specialties like Ajilimoje are made from local Olive oil, potatoes, and red pepper. There are many restaurants selling the local specials.

Accommodation: Many luxury villas are available at reasonable rates.
