Murcia And Its Surroundings

A holiday in Spain
Have you always dreamt about going to Spain? Is your dream finally about to come true, but you don’t know which region in Spain to choose for your holiday destination? Well, here is a helping hand.

You will be surprised to find out that Murcia is not one of the most visited places in Spain, despite the fact that it is one of the most beautiful ones.

Murcia is a small, autonomous community, situated somewhere between Andalusia and the coastal region of Valencia. The city has many points of attraction and it offers a lot of activities for those who visit it. Having lived for a very long time in a flourishing city thanks to the orange orchards, the mines and the industry, the inhabitants of Murcia are very proud, but warm people, always happy when someone decides to find out more about their city.

Sightseeing in Murcia

Of course if you go to Murcia as a tourist, you will want to visit the city step by step, street by street and district by district; you should do this if you prefer not to lose anything that the city has to offer you. For example, the old district, which is now the pedestrian part of the city, hosts in its centre the Catedral de Murcia (Murcia Cathedral).

The building is remarkable due to the Capilla de los Velez, decorated in a Plateresque style. It also hosts Gothic sculpture objects, wood sculptures, as well as the silver belonging to the Cathedral. The old Casino, now partially a restaurant, is also worth visiting if you are an art lover because its style is unique. In some ways it resembles the Moorish style, brought into the XIXth century.

Also worth visiting in Murcia is the commercial street, Gran via Esculator Salzillo, named after the Murcian sculptor Francisco Salzillo. The Salzillo Museum is dedicated to his life and work, the place where you can admire some of his most important sculptures.

Accommodation in Murcia

Murcia has a good number of hotels at the disposal of tourists, but it also has an impressive number of villas. It would be a good idea to choose a villa instead of a hotel, because in a villa you can really feel the spirit and the fragrance of Murcia. These are traditional buildings, very comfortable and private, in which you will feel wonderful.
