Benijofar is a small rural village in the province of Alicante in the region of Valencia. It is one of the small municipalities neighbouring the larger town of Rojales and takes its name from the Arab word Yauhar, which means “son of a pearl”. Benijofar is easily accessible by plane. Both Alicante and Murcia airports are only 30 minutes away by car. This agreeable village owes its success with holidaymakers to its ideal situation. Close to the Sierra Nevada and its surrounding countryside and also only 10 and 15 minutes respectively from the resorts of Guardamar del Segura and Torrevieja.

Benijofar, a Garden of Eden with an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables
Benijofar covers an area of only 4 km2 and has around 4,000 inhabitants, who live principally by growing fruit and vegetables. Benijofar is part of the Vega Baja region, renowned for its luxuriant countryside. It is not for nothing that Benijofar is also known as “the land of Orange Blossom”. The Vega Baja region owes its richness to the Rio Segura river, which runs through the countryside of Benijofar. This scenic area has many lemon trees. During the period from November to March, you will find an abundance of lemons, oranges and mandarins. In Benijofar many different sorts of melon are also cultivated, of which the melon chino, honeydew melon, is the most famous. As well as all these fruits, you will also find plenty of vegetables such as tomatoes, broccoli, artichokes and aubergines. All this local produce, ripened by the sun, can be found daily at the different markets in Benijofar and the surrounding areas.

- The watermill of Rio Segura, called La Noria in Spanish, is the only attraction in Benijofar itself.
