An unmissable visit during your stay in Tossa de Mar!

Dive into the Antiquity of the Iberian peninsula!

The Ametllers villa was discovered in 1919 following archaeological excavations. Built in the first century BC, it forms part of a group of

Roman villas found in Tossa. It is worth a visit as it is one of the most important villas in the ancient Roman province of Hispania Tarraconensis

The Els Ametllers villa consists of two distinct parts: the urban part (“pars urbana”) and the rural part (“pars fructuaria”). In the rural area, grapes were grown for export within the Empire. Much like the Roman colony of Baelo Claudia (Bolonia)which is located next to Tarifa in Andalusia, it bears witness to the agricultural role that the Iberian peninsula played in the Roman Empire.
