Malgrat de Mar, a welcoming coastal town on the Costa Maresme, bordering the northern Costa Brava. To the south, Malgrat de Mar joins on to Santa Susanna. Malgrat de Mar is a typically Catalan fishing village with narrow streets and a small authentic harbour where small fishing boats still moor. Around the fishing port you will find many shops, bars and restaurants. Today, the old town of Malgrat de Mar is best known for its nightlife. The new part of Malgrat de Mar has become Santa Susanna, an independent town that is connected to Malgrat de Mar by a beautiful 2.5 kilometre walk along the beach, where there are touristy souvenir shops. Along the coast there is a railway line that will take you anywhere. Malgrat de Mar’s climate is characterised by hot summers with occasional refreshing sea breezes, mild winters and very little rainfall.

Malgrat de Mar’s 4.5 kilometres of white sandy beaches are surrounded by pine trees. The wide beach, gently sloping towards the azure blue sea, makes this seaside resort one that is perfectly suited to families with small children. After a beautiful sunny day at sea and in the sand, you can return to the boulevard with its charming cafes, restaurants, shops and souvenir shops, where you will find jewellery and leather goods at very reasonable prices.

Since the 14th century, Malgrat de Mar has built a rich cultural and historical heritage. The main attractions are the Iglesia de San Nicolás neo-classical church with its octagonal bell tower, the 19th-century fish market, the modernist town from 1913, the manor house from the 16th century that now houses the “La Cooperativa” municipal library, the modernist Ca l’Arnau tourism office and Can Campassol, trulythe green “lung” of the town. La Pilona is a big rock which, at the beginning of the 20th century, served as a platform for the arrival of iron ores in small waggons from the mines of the Palomeras Can mountain.

Those who love good food will be very happy in Malgrat de Mar. The Spanish cuisine here is characterised by many fish and meat dishes such as the traditional paella and tapas.
