Overview

Granada is situated at an elevation of 738 meters above sea level and is at the bottom of the mountains of Sierra Nevada. Its population is about 275,000. Federico Garcia Lorca Airport is close to Granada.The Alhambra palace is located in Granada. This is named as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. University of Granada is popular and prestigious in Spain. The life at night in Granada is dynamic.

Climate : The Granada climate is warm, sunny and enjoyable, with mild winters and hot summers. This is a typical climate of the Mediterranean. The temperature varies from 6°C to 25°C. Average rainfall is 35 cm.

Art and CultureThis is the kingdom of Arabs in the Peninsula and has good artistic and historic heritage. Both the elements of Moors and Christians go together in Granada. Tourists will be led to Renaissance monuments by the Gran Vía de Colón and the Avenida de los Reyes Católicos.

Important places to see are Alcazaba, Nazarite Royal Palaces, Arab Granada, Salón de los Embajadores, Sala de las Dos Hermanas, Palace of Carlos V, Provincial Fine Arts Museum and the Alhambra Museum.

Sports and Entertainment

Since the climate in Granada is mild, lots of sports are practiced on pitches, courts and tracks. Some of the games practiced in the Municipal Sports Centre are basketball, table tennis, handball, volley ball, martial arts and indoor football. Gran Premio de Fondo, long-distance races are organized at different places. One can play golf in Granada Golf Club.

In addition there exist an Olympic firing range and a clay pigeon shooting range. There is a National Park that has been declared as a Biosphere Reserve. Water sports are also popular.

Culinary:  Granada’s cuisine is traditional with deep Arab roots. It contains peasant dishes from the Alpujarras, fresh fish caught on shores and delicacies from its orchards.

Entertainment

A large number of festivals are organized in Granada throughout the year. Some of them are – International Music and Dance Festival, International Jazz Festival, International Young Film-makers’ Festival, International Festival of Puppetry and Theatre with Objects, International Theatre Festival, International Tango Festival, Festival of the Conquest of Granada,  Fiesta de Las Cruces and the International Magic Festival. A large number of parties are organized on various occasions such as Easter week, Corpus Christi Fair and Virgen de las Angustias.

Children will be able to enjoy places like beaches of Costa Tropical, Sierra Nevada National Park, Sierra de Huétor National Park, Science Park, Planetarium, Juveándalus and José Guerrero Art Centre.

Shopping
There are innumerable shops in Granada and some of the most popular items for shopping are ceramic items, silver ware, inlaid woodwork, shoes and perfumes.

The city of Granada is known for its services and has excellent facilities to render service. This city has facilities for conducting exhibitions and conferences in addition to a wide range of accommodation possibilities. Every year symposiums, trade fairs and international conferences are held in Granada. It is well connected by air, rail and road and has a wide selection of hotels.

Popular convention centers and exhibition halls are Exhibition and Convention Centre, Manuel de Falla and Armilla Trade Fair Centre. In order to house collections and exhibitions temporarily Madraza Palace, Cordova Palace and Palace of the Condes de Gabia are available. The Carmen de los Chapiteles and the Carmen de los Mártires are useful for having open air receptions.
