Places of interest in Spain – La Alcazaba

For those who visit Spain, please be informed not to end your visit by visiting some of the popular cities or towns. There are many places of interest even in villages and some of the other remote places of Spain. It so happens that people who visit say for example, Andalucia, omit some of the villages or old places.

You know these old places have something more to tell us about Spain and its culture and the great strides these people have made in many fields of knowledge like art, architecture, etc. On our part we should not miss the town La Alcazaba. This town has people belonging to the Moorish community. People of La Alcazaba love tradition and are proud of their culture. This city has many places of interest for tourists. Let us just go round the city.

Albaycin hill:

This beautiful hill provides a place for enjoying the most spectacular view of the city and the surrounding places in their full colors of beauty. There is a fort on the top of this hill. The fort speaks of the frequent invasions this city experienced from Moors and many other rulers. These frequent wars prompted the king to construct this fort. There is a similar fort which is built on the mountains of Sierra. The fort fully protects the people who live inside the fort.

Torre de la Vela or Watch Tower:

This is one of the most spectacular buildings lost by Moors. Those who see this structure will certainly pity the Moors because they lost this jewel building. This watch tower also has a pathway so that a soldier could easily move across the tower and watch the movement of the soldiers. This great structure stands even today to explain how this place was the venue for frequent wars and invasions by various people.

Rampart garden:

This is not a garden but a paradise. It is certainly so. It was given a new name ‘Poets Garden’ or Jardin de los poetas’ in Spanish language. The garden has a collection of rarest species of trees and plants.

Apart from the above, there are other places of interest like the palace also called the Torre de la Armas which has simply beautiful interiors. This is another building which exhibits the professionalism the architects of those days had.

Are you now convinced that if you had missed La Alcazaba, it would certainly have been a great loss because you would have missed a great treasure of knowledge?
