Administrative procedures before leaving for Spain

That’s it! You have made up your mind
: Lloret de Mar is the destination for your next holiday. To prepare your stay efficiently, here is a list of useful information about necessary administrative procedures and security in Spain.

What documents will you need for going to Spain?

Being a member of the European Union, all you require to go to Spain is a valid passport.

Whether you take the train, car or plane, these identity papers are necessary. For those who come by car, your documents will be checked on leaving the UK and may be checked on the French-Spanish border.

In case of loss or theft of your passport, you must report this to the local police. A declaration will be necessary to cross the border by car. If you take the plane, contact the airline to find out if this declaration is sufficient.

In any case, we recommend that you keep a photocopy of your papers: it may be useful in case of loss or theft.

Security and checks

As we said previously, there may be checks at the Spanish border if you are coming by car. Travelling by plane, expect your passport to be checked on boarding and on entering Spain. These checks have been reinforced recently.

You should also know that your vehicle and/or your luggage may be searched by customs officers. Here is the official site to find out the quantity of alcohol and the number of boxes of cigarettes that you are allowed to bring back from Spain. Please note that the price of cigarettes in Spain varies depending whether you buy them at airport duty-free shops, from a vending machine or in a tobacco shop in town. It is in the latter that cigarettes are the cheapest.

Regarding security, Spain is a safe place where you should not encounter any major problems. We simply draw your attention to the risk of theft. Indeed there are many pickpockets and we recommend that you are particularly careful, especially if you spend a day in Barcelona.
