Church of Sant Roma

You will undoubtedly come across this superb church in Lloret de Mar as you stroll around the town.

Immediately recognisable due to its colourful roof, this is a place that you simply have to visit during your holidays on the Costa Brava.

An old church

The Church of Sant Roma is without a doubt the building that best represents Lloret de Mar. Located in the centre of the town, it was built in the 16th century in the Catalan Gothic style.

It was originally equipped with fortifications in order to protect it from attacks from the Mediterranean sea. In the 16th and 17th centuries, new extensions were added to the church and, most importantly, new side chapels.

Inside, you can admire the altarpiece by a master altar builder. Created in the 1540s by Catalan painters and goldsmiths, it depicts several scenes from the life of Christ and the Saints.

A gem of modern art

Church of Sant Roma

Sant Roma was expanded over the course of the 20th century. In 1916, the church, one of the most beautiful historic sites on the Costa Brava, adopted a rich and original modernist exterior decoration. Despite the damage caused during the Civil War, you can still admire the unique and colourful décor to this day.

On the occasion of the Festa Major de Lloret de Mar, a procession takes place from the church leading to the Santa Cristina Hermitage. Don’t miss this popular traditional feast day!
