What are the means of payment in Spain?

As a member of the Euro zone, Spain uses the same currency as France.

However, before leaving home, you should find out about all the means of payment used in the country to avoid any bad surprises.

How to withdraw cash in Lloret?

In Spain, most payments are generally made in cash, especially for small amounts, and credit cards are not always accepted. We therefore recommend that you always have some change on you to prepare for any eventuality.

Thanks to the Euro you will not have to change currency. Whether you withdraw it in France or in Spain, the currency is the same!

As to withdrawing money in Lloret de Mar, nothing could be easier: you will find automatic cash dispensers all around the town. You will need an international card to be able to make a withdrawal. To make sure, before you go on holiday, check that your card is a Visa, MasterCard, Eurocard, etc. Please note that some banks charge one or several euros for cash withdrawals. It is best to contact your bank before you set off to find out the terms and conditions.

What are the means of payment?

Other than the cash payments we have just mentioned, you can pay by credit card in Spain. Supermarkets, shops, tolls, accept international credit cards. Payments are made without additional charges.

In many Spanish shops, you will be asked to produce an identity card for any credit card payment. Think about taking your documentation with you. You may also be asked to sign a sales receipt.

Finally, you can leave your cheque book at home in France: French cheques are not valid abroad.

How much money should I plan to take for a holiday in Lloret de Mar?

Difficult to answer this question as it depends on personal spending habits. One thing is certain: life in Spain is still a little cheaper than in France. Even if the tourist boom has pushed up prices, particularly in the seaside resorts on the Costa Brava, it is still possible to enjoy a holiday on a low budget in Lloret de Mar. Supermarkets however have brought their prices in line with those of their French counterparts.

Steer clear of the tourist traps. Use smaller shops off the beaten track and avoid stores with gaudy window displays. Do not hesitate to ask how much an item, service or dish costs before buying it. Finally, speaking a few words of Spanish can help to negotiate or gain information.

Another way of bringing down your holiday budget is to rent accommodation as a group. To do so, please take a look at our list of holiday houses and villas you can rent:
