Spain, an attraction for tourists – El Morro fort

It is not just one or two; there are many spots for a tourist to see in Spain. Perfectly maintained rows of beaches, majestic mountains, islands and facilities for recreation like water sports, etc., castles, churches, parks, rows of restaurants serving mouth watering local foods are some of the many features available for a tourist to enjoy in Spain.

Another interesting point is that even if you just visit one province, you find many places of attraction for tourists. For example, you visit San Juan – a harbor; you certainly will be forced to extend your visit by a few days because you will be completely busy as there are so many places of interest to see in this tiny island which is the capital of Puerto Rico.

San Juan is a municipality administered town and is moderately populated. As you enter the city, you will find the famous El Morro fort. The fort is located at the most strategic location which oversees the Mediterranean Sea. It is because of this strategic location that many wars were fought to take control of this fort. This most popular fort is also called Castillo de San Felipe Del Morr. It has six different levels.

According to architects who inspected this fort, the present structure of the fort has undergone sea changes from the time it was built. The fort was rebuilt after the Spanish American war in the late 1800s. Now this is a protected heritage building. This well planned fort speaks of the architects who planned and built it. The aesthetic beauty of the fort and the spectacular view of the Mediterranean Sea is a pleasure to the eyes.

Perhaps one may require a day to completely go round this beautiful fort. At the entrance of the fort, there is a map describing the various places of interest inside the El Morro fort. There are Sentry Boxes (called Garitas in Spanish language) which are located at strategic locations. Another unique point is that three flags are flown on the El Morro fort; they are the flag of the United States, flag of Puerto Rico and the flag of Burgundy.

As a matter of fact, the flag of old Military of Spain is the flag of Burgundy. By the side of the El Morro fort is the light house. This light house suffered damage during the Spanish American war but it has now been rebuilt.
