Vigo: Spain’s Beach Paradise

Vigo is a little-known destination in the Galicia region of northern Spain. In fact, the place is common to cruise ship passengers who use it for debarking for various excursions including one to the pilgrimage city- Santiago de Compostella. But this is not the only reason to visit Vigo. Vigo happens to be an attractive place for beach lovers. There are a number of places to visit that will add to the romance and thrill on your trip.

The three Cíes Islands are just a short ferry ride away from Vigo city and are protected by international Park named Atlánticas National Park. The region is considered to be the most knowledgeable important and beautiful natural landscape that country has.

The area is surrounded by turquoise colored water that comes from the Atlantic Ocean and the white sand dunes, pine forests, islands’ cliffs, Crystal-clear lagoons at the looks of the island. This is the reason behind the fact that Romans named this island as “the islands of the Gods.” The uncrowded beaches are perfect for honeymoon couples.

Atlánticas National Park

The area is known to have some extremely rich sea beds which cater to around 15000 nesting pair of birds.  This unspoiled natural environment happens to be the most important colonies for thousands off marine birds especially that of Yellowfoot Gull. Some rare plants and flowers can also be seen on the cliffs and dunes. The area is perfect for those who love bird watching.

Lagoons and White Sand Beaches

The beaches of these islands that are adorned by forested slopes and dunes making it a haven for honeymoon couples. The beach happens to be 1200 yards long and connects to Monteagudo. Rodas, a lagoon that falls behind the beach fills each high tide with what that is so clear that you can easily see the fishes and other sea life that are caught within.

How to Get to the Cíes Islands

You can take a ferry from Maritime Termina. It is a new port terminal that has been decorated with murals. The overnight facilities on the islands are only available in the form of campgrounds. Striking late night activities are also carried on here.

Camping on the Cíes Islands

In order to camp here you will have to make reservations in advance. Complete registration needs to be done one you reach Vigo at the Vigo Marine Resort. One you get the registration card, you are allowed to purchase a return boat ticket.
